AI Transparency

1. What this page is about

Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the AI Act) applies from 2 August 2026. It obliges deployers to disclose artificially generated image, audio and video content. This page tells you where artificial intelligence is involved on this website — and, just as importantly to us, where it expressly is not.

We restore vehicles whose value rests on their authenticity. A website that stays silent about the origin of its own imagery would be a poor argument for that.

2. AI-assisted visualisations: clearly labelled

Some images on this website were composed with generative AI. Every such scene carries a visible note on the image itself (AI-assisted visualisation) — not only here in the small print. A genuine photograph receiving only minor generative retouching would instead be labelled AI-optimised photograph.

  • The page header backgrounds. Workshop scenes, atelier views and the courtyard view on the home page.
  • The service images. The motifs for full restoration, bodywork and paintwork.
  • The social sharing preview card. It appears when someone shares a link to this site. No on-image note can reach it — the preview is rendered by the respective platform, not by us. That is why it is listed here.
  • The digital front desk. The figure at the edge of the screen is an AI-assisted digital representation of James, not a live recording. Its appearance and movement are synthetic; messages are still read and answered by a human.

These visualisations are not documentary photographs. The new workshop series uses approved references of James and genuine project and workshop photographs, but composes them into new scenes. The project archive remains separate and contains genuine photographs only. The label prevents a composed scene from being mistaken for documentary photography.

3. What is real

Anything that constitutes evidence is photographed. That is not a detail but the line we hold: an image that would assert a fact is never generated.

  • The project archive. Every photograph of completed and ongoing work — bare shell, bodywork, paint booth, finished vehicle — was taken in the atelier.
  • The portrait of James Wardell. A genuine photograph, provided by him.
  • The details of the business, address and history. Verifiable and evidenced in the imprint.

The wordmark, emblem and icons carry no label. They do not create the impression of a photograph and therefore fall outside the disclosure obligation.

4. Text: under editorial responsibility

We use AI tools when drafting, translating and proofreading the text on this website — the way a craftsman uses a tool. Editorial responsibility for all content rests with James Wardell. Every published text is checked on the substance before it goes online. A spell check would not be enough for that — what is meant is a check of the facts.

That is also why no AI note appears on the text: Article 50 expressly exempts text that is subject to human review and editorial responsibility.

5. Where no AI is at work

This deserves disclosure just as much as the opposite case:

  • There is no chatbot. Anyone writing through the contact form is writing to a person. The enquiry is delivered by email and answered by hand. No text on this site is generated by a machine in conversation.
  • Estimates and assessments are done by hand. You do not receive an automated result but the judgement of the atelier.
  • No emotion recognition, no biometric categorisation, no automated scoring of visitors. This website makes no decisions about people.

Should any of this change, it will be stated here before it goes live.

6. AI literacy under Article 4

Since 2 February 2025, Article 4 of the AI Act has required that anyone operating AI systems has sufficient AI literacy. For this atelier that means:

  • Generative image and text tools are used — exclusively for design, research and translation, never for decisions about people.
  • The origin of every delivered image is documented in a register within the project; the label is derived from it rather than set by hand. A build check aborts publication if an image with unclear origin is added.
  • We are aware of the limits and failure modes of these tools — in particular that they can invent facts. That is precisely why every publication is preceded by a review of the substance.
